Snow Day, Snow Day, I Really Want A Snow Day

Megan sang that last year for her 1st grade/2nd grade musical, I think she was a year early!  Last night and this morning we had a blizzard. 

It was rather amazing to be a part of it – probably one of the worst snow storms I can imagine.  The wind was crazy with gusts up to 55 mph and white out conditions.  We even had snow thunder…which was really bizarre.  The thunder and lightening seemed so out of place in the middle of a blizzard.  Apparently during the times of snow thunder that will also be your heaviest times of snowfall.

My husband was not home, he picked up extra at the Fire Department, so it was just me and the 3 kids.  Anna and Ethan were fine, actually oblivious to what was going on.  Megan on the other hand was rather nervous – she has a fear of tornadoes so was very worried about getting a tornado in the middle of all this.  I assured her that we were fine, but the wind was so loud and you could just hear things banging around so that was not of any help.

Megan has been wanting to see Harry Potter, but the newer one’s are way too scary for her.  The first one and maybe the second are fairly mild.  On Monday we were at the library and we actually bought the 1st Harry Potter for $.50.  Last night during the Blizzard Megan and I watched her movie in my bedroom with the lights off…probably not the best movie to watch at a time that she was already on edge.  She was actually okay with it, but had I known the wind was going to be that brutal I probably would have gotten a different movie.

The snow finally stopped falling this morning around 8:30 am and then it was the dig out.  Mind you, my husband was unable to come home because the streets were not plowed.  It was an incredible amount of snow to shovel.  Some wonderful neighbors did come by and help, but my arms, shoulders and wrist are so incredibly sore right now!  And I am exhausted.

The first picture is a picture of our backyard last night…not the best of picture’s but what you see is the sandbox to the left and a wood picnic table on the far right side.  The picture all the way on the right is the same thing but this morning.  As you can see – no sandbox or table.  In fact the snow is so high, it comes up to the lid of our grill.  The picture that is second from the left is a picture of a forsythia (that is a 6 foot fence) with humongous snow drift.  The picture that is second from the right is out our front window…holy bushes covered and snow drifts about 4 feet high.  There is a little dot in the middle – that is our fire hydrant that is buried.  :-(

I’m glad we are all safe and sound – with no power lost.  It really was quite the adventure!  And one for the history books.  I honestly don’t know what the final totals were, but my husband seems to think it was 23 inches.
