Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend was spent mostly caring for the sick...children.  'Tis the season, right?  This year actually hasn't been so bad with colds as in years past.  The year Anna and Ethan were born they were given shots to immunize against RSV, since they were born 8 weeks premature they needed the extra protection.  That shot also really built up their immunity for that flu season and, amazingly, they did not get any colds at all!  Since then, every year they've been making up for lost time with all they colds they've gotten.  Last year I counted 9 colds!  At least they are building up their immunity, right?  This is only the second cold so far this year.

Anna had a fever through Friday.  Yesterday (Saturday) she didn't have a fever but she (and Megan) started getting a really bad cold  What makes it worse is, I still can't get Anna to blow her nose.  She keeps blowing air out through her mouth instead of her nose.  For some reason I get the feeling she's playing me.  But it gets so messy and I think it tends to settle more in the chest.

So this morning Anna woke up with a bloody nose.  It's really not too unusual for her.  She and Megan seem to be the one's to have more of a tendency to get those.  But this one really made me a bit nervous.  It seemed to finally slow down after about 15 minutes only to all of a sudden start gushing...I couldn't get it to stop.  I was starting to get a little panicky - you know those thoughts going through my head - so I was able to talk Anna in to letting dad take over by telling her he is really good at making these stop.  I didn't want her to see me getting nervous so I thought it best to let him take over and I could go get her bedding washed.  Besides, he's the paramedic!  Of course he was able to get it to stop.  Thank you God!

I then went to church and left the kids home with my husband.  Since Anna and Megan both have colds and were coughing I figured they may as well stay home.  And if I was leaving Megan, and especially Anna, then I really needed to leave Ethan too.  Church was great - I love my church.  It has cultivated such an amazing community of people.

After church I went home and all the kids were dressed and playing very nicely and ... no coughing.  Yay!  Mornings and nighttime seem to be the hardest time's with the coughing.  We hung out at home for a bit and then watched The Bears get their butts handed to them with some friends for the afternoon.

As we were taking the kids up to bed, Anna said she wanted her temperature taken.  Temperature...100.2.  Low, but it is a temperature.  Ethan then wanted his taken, I was shocked to see it was at 101.7!  Poor little guy was coughing like crazy in his bed too.  I put a really flat pillow under his pillow just to elevate him a little, it seemed to have helped in the past - but wasn't helping so much this time.  It's so hard when they get those coughs, there isn't really anything you can do except humidity and lots of water.

Even though the kids were sick and we didn't really do anything very exciting, I really didn't mind not going anywhere.  It has been so cold that I've really had no desire to go out and do anything anyway!  It was actually nice to just spend the day in our jammies!

Anna's right eye started getting little goopies in it yesterday...and then the other started.  She woke up this morning and had the crusty's on both eyes.  I have an appointment for Anna in a little bit to see the pediatrician.  I'm not sure if it's pink eye?  I don't want to take any chances though with infecting other kids.  Poor Ethan had to go to pre-school on his own and he's never done that before.  He was a little upset this morning.  :(

Sunday Hops!

So my husband is finally back at work...it was a long 4 weeks of him being home with a broken big toe. We loved having him home, but really missed the $$ from the part-time work at the Fire Department. He's gone all weekend - trying to make up for the lost income during the holidays. I going to be taking the kids to church and then spending some time at the library today. :)

Wednesday Hops and Giveaway Reminder!

The roller ball on my Blackberry died a few days ago so I ordered a new phone.  I REALLY wanted an Android with the touch screen so I ordered a T-Mobile G2 with Google.  I got my new phone yesterday and LOVE it.  I'm a tech geek and, unfortunately, could spend hours "playing" with this new fun little gadget.  I have to come back down to earth and concentrate on business.  The last thing I need is yet another distraction.  :-)  Although, it is fun for those mental breaks!

Yay, I Am a "Featured" blog

I am so excited to be featured on the Friendly Friday blog hop. Thank you to the hosts for not only hosting that hop but having my blog as one of the featured one's!

Let It Snow!

Our first snow fall of the season!  I actually saw a little bit last night while I was out in it but it was not sticking, and to be honest, I was not very thrilled with it!  Usually I love the first snowfall each year, but I think I was a little grumpy yesterday.  I had a migraine all day which tends to effect my mood.  :-)

It's a little late in our season to have seen snow for the first time.  But, I'll take it.  We have actually been a little spoiled and have had a rather mild Fall.  It's funny how I can live in the Midwest but not fan of cold weather.

Anna and Ethan are very funny with seeing the snow.  They don't remember it from last year so are very excited about it.  Ethan just asked since it's snow does that mean Santa is on his way.  So cute.  That's really what makes it fun, seeing the kids play and enjoy themselves no matter what the weather.

Edit:  So I got Anna and Ethan all bundled up to go outside to play in the snow because they really wanted to go out there.  They walked outside, stood there for literally about 5 seconds and then both turned around and said they wanted to come inside!  They didn't even want to touch the snow.  They both said it was too cold.  Funny!
